Dear Carol & Family I was so sorry learn of the death of Merv. I am in Montreal convalescing, so was unable to attend the funeral. His sister Bonnie told me that Merv was in the Hospital so that day I and went to visit with him before I left town but he had been dismissed that day. I have known Merv all my life and my return to Mount Forest gave me the opportunity to reconnect with him. — Gary and Linda McLean, November 30, 2010Scott, Lisa, Taylor and Troy - from our family to yours we extend our deepest sympathy on the loss of your father, father-in-law and poppa. I only just spoke with Merv at the beginning of November to collect the clothing to display in the Thrift Store Window and to think I won't have the privilege again saddens me. When I read the newspaper last night (upon arrival home from Cuba) I immediately thought of all the young children in and around town who's lives Merv enriched with his helpfulness and stories. Hopefully knowing that he is a legacy in our town will bring some sort of joy at this time of sorrow. Regards, Tali, John, Taija and McKenna.

Just to know that there will be no footsteps coming down the stairs at the legion at 7:30 in the morning, no more of his special good morning greetings, no more history lessons and no more sheepish grin when his quick wit had someone walking away double thinking about what he had just said knowing full well that Merv had gotten something over on them. He will truly be missed as a Comrade, a sounding board, a friend. My deepest sympathy to all.
