Jack Fitzmaurice

Jack Fitzmaurice
Jack passed away peacefully at home, sitting quietly in his favourite LazyBoy chair on Monday, November 27th, 2017 in his 93rd year.  As stubborn as they come, he loved his family, his cat, his gardens and his scooter. A story teller, a lover of nature and animals, we spent countless hours getting lost on back roads looking at corn crops, winter and fall wheat, and alfalfa. We laughed at his stories- obviously a hell raiser as a youth, and at 92, still a bit of a one!  Jack was a dear and loving husband to Bernice (Schmidt), a loving father to Mary Cubello, Carol Fitzmaurice and her husband Stuart Church. Father-in-law to Fulvio Cubello. Predeceased by infant daughter, Marie. He loved and was proud of his two grandchildren, Brendan Cubello and Kaitlyn Church, and step grandson Kyle Church. They were often regaled with his childhood stories and will dearly miss the hall game with grandpa. He was son to the late George Fitzmaurice and Annie McCann.  Survived by his sisters Mary Sheehy, Ann Hill, and Teresa Horrigan. Predeceased by sisters Margaret Haid and Rita Ondercin, and brother Matt Fitzmaurice.  Lovingly remembered by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews in the Fitzmaurice and Schmidt families. And will particularly be missed by his cat, Jazzy.  A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church, 230 Queen Street East, Mount Forest on Saturday, December 2nd at 12:30 p.m., where visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.  Cremation to follow with a private interment of cremated remains to take place at a later date at St. James Cemetery, Colgan, ON.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospital for SickKids Foundation, Toronto, ON.  Arrangements entrusted to the England Funeral Home, Mount Forest.

Condolences

Very sad to learn of Uncle Jack's death . Very grateful to be informed of this passage. Our thoughts are with Aunt Bernie, Carol and Mary as well as all who loved him. With this loss, comes sweet memories of childhood on the farm with Jack and Bernie , before their children were born . With every day, we remember how precious and short life is-even though Jack lived a full and long life-it never seems enough. Sending condolences and gratitude for Jack's ability to die in his own home, in his own lazy boy chair, amongst his everydayness in life. It is a blessing to be hoped for all of us. With affection, Patrick Schmidt, Michele Chaban, Peter Schmidt and our families.
