J. McLuhan
February 3, 2018
Muriel McLuhan of Truro, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 3, 2018, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Muriel leaves to mourn her daughters, Brenda, Bowen Island, British Columbia; Lynn (Allan Troop), Truro; brother, Al McLellan; sister, Marian McClure (Bill Walker); niece, Shannon McClure (Chris Johnson) and their son, Parker; niece, Lisa McLellan and her daughter, Nyana; many McLuhan cousins. Muriel was predeceased by her husband and best friend, William (Bill) McLuhan; parents, Richard and Helen McLellan; brother, Murray. Muriel was born and grew up in Wellington County, Ontario, and moved to Mount Forest to work in a dental office (her first job), when she was just 17. There she met and fell in love with her future husband, Bill. When Bill moved to Toronto to study dentistry, she followed and worked in a clothing textile business. In 1959, they were married. Muriel was a devoted wife and mother, and her family was her world. She also loved fashion, antiques, good food, animals of all kinds and travel. She especially loved vacationing in Naples, Florida, where the climate was more to her liking...the hotter, the better!! In 2008 Mom was diagnosed with cancer in her spine; her spirit, strength, and sheer determination carried her through the last few years as her cancer continued to spread. She outlived all expectations. We cannot express how grateful we are for the excellent care Mom got from all the staff at Parkland; Robyn, Connie and the entire staff went above and beyond the call of duty in meeting Mom’s exacting standards! A heartfelt thanks as well to Dr. Henderson, Lisa Weatherbee and the entire Palliative Care team along with the VON; you are all angels. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, Truro, Nova Scotia and England Funeral Home, Mount Forest, Ontario. Mom will be laid to rest at a graveside service in Mount Forest this spring where she will be reunited with our father, just as she wanted. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Muriel’s obituary on-line and selecting “Send A Condolence” at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com or www.englandfuneralhome.com
Condolences
A kind, beautiful, brave and loving woman. You my dear, will be missed. Not "good-bye" instead "till we meet again." You can finally rest in peace and go to the open arms of the "loves" who went ahead of you.
