Dennis Gowan
August 14, 2018
Dennis lived the majority of his adult life in Cornwall, where he was employed with Tank Truck Transport, Cornwall Division from 1974 until his forced retirement in 2006 due to a stroke. He was a kind and gentle soul who always had a funny comment or trucking story to tell. Through the many adversities and challenges he faced, his spirit always remained strong. He so appreciated all those who helped him maintain a semblance of normalcy, especially the staff at Fordwich Nursing Home. He proudly served on the Resident Advisory Council, participated in various singing groups and enthusiastically embraced any and all field trips. Dennis was a true character, he had strong opinions and was not shy about sharing them. He had a heart of gold.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Dennis at Fordwich Nursing Home, 3063 Adelaide St, Fordwich, ON Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 1 p.m. Burial at a later date in St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery. If so desired, contributions to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family or to the Fordwich Nursing Home Resident Council (tax receipts cannot be issued).
While you will be missed dearly by family and friends, you are now free of your physical restraints. Your courage and perseverance have made you a true hero.
Rest in peace, Dennis.
Condolences
Rob, Brian and Karen, My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your dad. It's been many years since I've seen you but you're in my thoughts often. I remember fondly the times at the cottage when your dad used to love to check up on us when we were there and Brian was lookout on the beach...… he had a great sense of humour! At this sad time please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all, Moe
— Maureen Stokes-McIntosh, August 27, 2018To Dennis's family: We want to extend our very sincere condolences on the passing of our dear friend Dennis. We go back many years, with many happy and fun memories. He loved to eat. He liked to smoke, and was very considerate when visiting us. He would sit on the floor in front of the fireplace so the smoke would travel up the chimney. He liked to trick, and scare us, especially on Halloween night. He was a gentle soul. We missed him when he left Cornwall, spoke with him on the phone at Christmas or his Birthday. He is now at rest after so many hard years. He will always be remembered by us. Sincerely Orval and Becky Brownell......(We have made a donation to Heart and Stroke foundation in memory of Dennis, a cheque was mailed to the England Funeral home.)
