Condolences
I'm writing on behalf of the Casella family. We only learned of Charlie's passing yesterday (Nov 29) and received his news with great saddness. Charlie and Ruth have been wonderful friends to our parents, Gino and Margaret Casella, for several years. Mom and Dad have the Schoolhouse at Irish Lake, a few steps from the Popes' home, and they always enjoyed spending time together. Dad, especially, loved him. Charlie was one of the kindest, most generous and loveable people we've ever known. He would always bring a smile to everyone's face. He took great interest in the Casella children and grandchildren. As mom and dad got older and unable to come to the Schoolhouse, Charlie often called to check in on them. We spoke several times a year, and I visited whenever I could - the last time was this past summer, when I dropped by and they insisted I stay for soup. Our mom has passed, and dad doesn't remember many people any more... so, for me, in particular, it was always a comfort to speak with Charlie, and I will really miss him. I'm attaching a couple of photos from 2018.
— Emilia Casella, November 30, 2023Our most sincere condolences to all of Charlie's family. I have never met any person before who smiled and laughed unconditionally and continually, no matter what. I can't remember ever seeing him frown. Every encounter that I ever had with him was full of tongue'n cheek bouts of snickering and rib pokes. We will miss his robust sense of humor and love of life...... Ken and Margy Smart.
— Ken Smart, November 11, 2023So sorry to have heard about Charlie's passing. His kindness and infectious laughter warmed our hearts. RIP dear friend. We've purchased 2 sleep kits in memory of Charlie.
