Ross Edward MacDonald
August 7, 2022
MacDONALD, Ross Edward - Peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Strathcona Long Term Care, Mount Forest, in his 96th year. Beloved husband of the late Iva MacDonald (neé Whetham) and dear friend of the late Valerie Dickey. Loving father of Doug (Ruth) MacDonald of Mount Forest, Doris Carmount of Mount Forest, and Murray (Patti) MacDonald of Waterford. Predeceased by his son Eldon, son-in-law Dave, and four brothers: Arnold, Russell, Gladwyn and Ken. Survived by 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Ross was a lifetime resident of Mount Forest whose passion was farming. He had a great love of horses, especially his team of Belgians – King and Barney. He was regularly seen pulling floats in various local parades and was in great demand for his winter sleigh rides. He had a variety of jobs throughout his lifetime – CN Express deliveryman, auxiliary police officer, arena manager, billiard hall owner, restaurant owner, farmers market manager (who made the best hot dogs ever), building inspector and by-law officer.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff of Strathcona Long Term Care for their excellent care and compassion.
The funeral service will be held at Mount Forest United Church, 175 Queen Street East, Mount Forest, on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 12 noon, with visitation from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Interment at Mount Forest Cemetery. Our deepest condolences to all of you. Ross was a great friend of our Dad Jack, and our families intertwined many times over the years. Guess who Murray Douglas Markle was named after? It has been many years since we have seen Ross, but we will always remember the twinkle in his eye and his great laugh. We know he will be missed by many.
Thinking of you at this difficult time... Mary-Anne, Murray and Elva Lee
Condolences to all the family. You picked the perfect picture to capture Ross. Every parade that highlighted his horses, keeping the rink rats in their place at the arena. Ross was everywhere with that great smile. When I was little I thought he was the Mayor. A wonderful man.

— George and Bonnie Holliday, August 8, 2022Wow, what does one say about such a dynamic and caring person? A man who leaves such a lasting and positive impression on so many lives he touched?
Our great uncle Ross was so much fun. He always extended a hand to anyone in need, his friends and especially his family and extended family.
My fondest memories in my youth which shaped who I am today, was spending time on the beautiful MacDonald family farm learning all about horses and livestock along with picking stones in the vast fields, swinging on a rope in the rafters of the barn then letting go and landing in the piles of grain! Uncle Ross had a ruggedness but also a gentle side which always made me feel safe and loved. You will be missed dearest Uncle Ross! Now you are with those loved ones who have passed before you which include your brother (my grandpa Russell MacDonald) along with your loving niece (my dear mom) Eleanor MacDonald-Dunsmoor.
Rest In Peace, love you always and forever, Pamela Dunsmoor-Rogers ❤️
